Looking at recent headlines it is interesting to see how the 19th Century has managed to control the 21st Century in the area of Road Building
in fact those Victorian surveyors got to decide where the roads go for all time and also name nearly all the features.
However as the population & technology grows I must say it would have been handy for those old timers to draw in a few more paper roads
The Cycle Trail from Te Anau to Manapouri would be so much easier to start on if there was only a paper road in place through the margins of the National Park
and it we would perhaps be able to drive our Jeeps over the mountains to the West Arm Power station if those guys had a bit more fore sight.
Also if the Chinese wanted to boost Te Anau’s Tourism Status, that road connection Doubtful Sound to Breaksea / Dusky Sound would certainly put the Havill Highway to shame. But alas, it seems we are just living in the wrong century. It’s too late, the die has been cast.
