If popular movies reflect our current times then I guess the latest Star Wars instalment is saying
It’s all hopeless and the only way to have a fair society is to use magic.  I think Hollywood should have just made this last film the final one.

Every story must have an end and as JRR Tolkien discovered when there is no future plot other than endless conflict and death then it’s time to stop. I mean If we want that story all we have to do is watch CNN.

Even Star Trek has given up on it’s message of hope by enlightenment and caring in favour of war & conflict and sadly our young people are engulfed in the same endless message in Online Games.

I suppose Star Wars is just reflecting our overbearing punitive free-market military industrial Complex instead of just being a Space Western as it original story was viewed. Today it’s role is looking like exporting Americas message of might make right in a grim magical context. The fact is for all it’s faults the Empire keeps order and it is just more sexy and better funded.

I prefer The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy where the galaxy is a humorous bureaucratic muddle and nobody is really in control of detail... People have flaws, Oh and the Ultimate question is the answer to life the universe and everything.
Or as some would say, the Human Condition .

As we can see in US Politics the late Queen of “The Self” Ann Rand has caused a modern epidemic of self induced insanity that threatens civilization as we know it.

Darwin would agree that the desire to contribute to a greater good has been one of Humanities greatest assets in building civilizations.
Unfortunately empathy is soluble when mixed with too much prosperity ! ...And withered with too much poverty.

 Looking away from the Politics of the US Presidential Election Cycle overwhelming our media for a moment...

What is wrong with our Political System that is causing so much grief in NZ ? It is simply time for a systems upgrade ?

Political Leaders are just managers wound up in  Party “Brands”. What if we made up a new Progressive One-Stop-Shop Party ?
One that has permanent foundation concepts  Justice for all, HEALTH for all, WORK for all, Basic HUMAN NEEDS for all, taking on other
Political priorities as “Foundation Ideals” such as Greens Environmental concerns, Labour’s right to question, The Maori Parties care for our past & uniqueness,
National’s care for the Competitive Spirit and good Luck.  And of let’s not forget Winston Peter’s tireless scrutiny of wrong-doers.

New Zealand is an Ideal country for a true progressive 21st century Government, If Humanity can’t do it here easily , It can’t be done at all.
All we need now is a Bernie Sanders of our own ‘cause I am certain we are so much better than the sum of our political parts today.

And that goes for local government as well, it is almost medieval in nature if you look at it with undue attention..

The US election of 2016 is another crossroads for humanity.
We tend to look at the world as a collection of solid nation states founded in stone to stand forever
but that is clearly wishful thinking. In 2016 the reality is we are a global community held together
mostly by descendants of the former British Empire and European Allies..  Though it appears the United States will
carry with the grand plan without the will of nearly half of it’s population. If it fails and looses it’s bottle who can step up and carry the
flame?

Mr Trump may leave the “heat” of the kitchen and head for a paranoia bunker. His supporters might go crazy and fancy themselves as Isis for Jesus,
run amuck, declaring a fatwa on thinking.

Yes It might seem like a far fetched farce but the rest of the World might need to brace themselves.

America and Europe of 2016 are awash in unwanted people displace by globalization and they are looking for a spark as the light of hope grows dimmer.

Worse yet the most UNWANTED people are not refugees but elected politicians like the putrefied US Congress and the hated European Parliament.  
Capable of doing “more than a little” mischief.

In his untold History of the United States TV Series he recalls all the Nasty Things we in the West have done that burns on and we try hard to forget.

We and our Corporations have caused Millions of Deaths and Displaced People on an Industrial Scale over the last 100 years
Our history is sanitized to a point we are in a DAZE and Ask Repeatedly “How did this Happen “? every time our society shows a crack in its mask of benevolence.

Fact is the USA is literally Running out of Bombs trying to put out fire with fire, to keep us all safe from the mess we have made of this Planet .. It getting harder to know who are the bad guys when you are in the Fog of a patriotic Smoke Screen...

 It has been said by very Cleaver People that the unfettered Capitalist System we all know and love will come to the end of its tracks at some point
I think it is timely that Socialist Bernie Sanders is a possible hopeful to become the Leader of the Free world because Socialism is the best tool in the toolbox to
Fix all the problems we collectively face today especially in the way of Insecurity over climate, China, Oil, Jobs, Markets, War and Displaced People in unprecedented Biblical numbers.
New Zealand needs a Bernie Sanders too, but if the USA leads the way I think the reckless Capitalist Risk takers that have turned investment in this country into a joke might be in for a short shift.

As for our Prime Minister... If the Auckland Housing Bubble implodes shortly then He should have his bubble popped as well with a vote of no confidence after his off hand comments.
I am sure your economists at Otago University confer on that.

Comedian Bill Maher may not be a politician but he has the ears of powerful People on this Planet
There seems to be a consensus on his show that the United States of America is NOT the World’s Policeman..

Actually by default, It Is. And also a Fireman.

Mr. Maher points out that US Governments and their Corporations embarked on a reckless adventure over the remains of the World’s Previous Empires

But Sadly Bill, Someone has to be in charge of the people of Earth or it will go to hell in a handcart.

All the Ultra Rich who own everything will agree with the question posed the old Midnight Oil song... “How do we sleep when our beds are burning”

The Late Gene Roddenberry's future visions have captured the American imagination  in his fiction Stories
The technology excited  many generations of Americans but it was the political development of the Earth under the benevolent guidance of the Future United States
That was one of his greatest Visions.

I think it is a bit sad that the Poorer People in NZ have to pay for the conscience of the wealthy people who desired war in the Middle East to pay for September 11
We are in a state of Austerity in this country and bringing in Syrians to jump the queue for jobs, Houses and welfare will no doubt push our desperate people over the edge,  sadly CNN will not broadcast THEIR demise.   This is Squarely  America’s Fault It would not have Happened if they knew what they where doing, THEY print the World’s money THEY should fix this problem.
The poor of this Country are not the Guilty Party here.

Taking in mass refugees into liberal humanitarian Countries is only a band-aid. This Madness has to stop.. It’s clearly Priority Number One for us all.

 US psychologist Jean Maria Arrigo warned that the American Psychological Association was complicit in state sanctioned torture ?
Is TV to Blame ? A US Supreme court Judge said it works for Jack Bauer, (a fictional TV character)
If that is the case then TV is actually misleading the public as to it’s almost useless effectiveness for getting information.

It’s effect to scare populations is another matter.

So that beggar's the question, was the Bush Administration a Bunch of Thugs ?

Out here in the Rural Heartland I have noticed the seeping in of Right Wing American Talkback rhetoric about Man Made Climate Change.
If you want to Argue that Cows have a negative effect on the environment I think it’s fair to argue that maybe it’s not that much on a planet this size.
But you surely can’t say that Cows don’t exist or in the Case of Man Made Climate Change, that it is all an Illusion.

However the Right Wing Shock Jocks don’t stop there They call man made Climate change a Faith or Religion which is bizarre to say the least.
If being slightly concerned about a possible danger is just “Faith” to them, then I think they must have no fear, empathy or a desire to survive.

As someone who has lived in the USA I would like to point out that Right Wing Shock Jock Radio Hosts are what you call “Barking Mad”
and they do it for ratings and entertainment. Yes they DO exist albeit in a Logic Free Bubble. Please do not take what they say too seriously.

And don’t ask scientists for complicated facts if you can’t understand complex issues that you are not trained to comprehend.
Very few people can articulate how an Iphone works...That dosn’t mean they don’t exist or that they run on magic!

President Bernie Sanders & Wealth Redistibution

 At last there is an Honest Politician in the USA who is running for the Whitehouse. Independent Stalwart Bernie Sanders is unusual as he got kudos for telling the hard Truth and not sugar coated lies.

I wonder if this will come to anything, or will the American desire to not hear anything unpleasant overwhelm him? Like the Pope in Rome he says it time to stop goofing about with Money and start investing in the Future.  But it still unclear how either of them can address the real cause of every major problem on Earth, what to do with Unwanted People.

No one person, culture or Nation can touch that problem, they can’t even say it exists.

I don’t know about the Pope but I think a provincial NZ Newspaper might be cheeky enough to ask Bernie  about a problem that is at the heart of every conflict and disaster facing us Humans collectively.

Bernie Says it Socialism that will Fix the United States but what about the rest of us ? But the USA Prints the World’s Money so EVERY US Citizen can potentially live as Kings...
Isn’t that a just little unfair to the rest of us ? Won’t we feel unwanted?

People are Ignorant,
Yes in the West faith is a matter of choice and Free thinking in some cases
But in the Third World and the Middle East, ordinary people do not have an option but to
Do as they are told when it comes to faith and even in the USA the same applies within family groups.

Also terrorism is not random Violence perpetrated by self-centered individuals, it is almost always the manifestation of disorganized discontent
By sorry arse people in dire distress who can not or will not be heard in any other way.

The Nations that suffered the Great War 100 years all went on to embrace the concept of “Thinking”

 I see today our elected representatives want to cozy up to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia...

They do realize that it is not a Happy Kingdom. Just try to be a medieval style Kingdom with almost limitless oil money
In the 21st century, it’s not an easy road.  Their Government has a lot in common with North Korea but North Korea at least isn’t conflicted with having too much money and influence In a World of humanity they can’t understand, making them annoyed and confused.

The Saudi’s Mentor is the USA who does understand Humanity very well but for some reason “they” just bungled the Kingdom into a War that could break them!
It’s not escaped some observers that Sadam Hussein did something similar under US Advice and that didn’t end well.

It always seemed odd to me that the Saudis couldn’t nourish their Neighbors to the South or the rest of the poor Arab States with a share in their economic feast...
A spoonful of Socialism in the right mouths could stop a lot of grumpy tummies !  New Zealand could help teach them that only our spoons seem to be shrinking .
