Cunning Tax relief for the Taxpayer

Posted 7th June 2019 to the Dominion Post Newspaper Wellington NZ

Here is a thought about our tax system...

Citizens with money pay the most tax...  So if our large poor population had more money, they could pay more tax and take the Burdon off the middle and upper middle class.
So a living wage would give the government a larger and deeper pocket to dig into.

Also it should be clear to tax payers that their money goes to help everyone especially themselves if they are down on their luck as well as doing nice social projects.
Tax should not be used to fix the mess caused by sub living wage effects.

No harm has come out of giving people a living wage in places where it has been put into practice. It was a slippery slope to have let it happen in the first place and it is a sign of incompetence
As well as unfettered property speculation.

Jim Boldger & The NZ Green Party

Posted October 4th to the Dominion Post Newspaper Wellington New Zealand.

Dear Sir:
Jim Bolger is a pretty level headed Kiwi bloke and he also echos the sentiments of
some disappointed Liberals when he asks why the Green Party will not form a government with the National Party, after all the main premise of a liberal is to help others.... If you do not hold power then you can NOT help anyone.

It's a problem in the USA as well as the liberals there almost crave noble defeats preferring to hold the moral high ground rather in academia than do any real work.
Any party should be happy to have the Greens help them they are mostly well educated thoughtful people who strive to have good values.
But they have to stop with the politics of identity and try an be a force of good for all.

Seriously If you form a political party with the Idea that it is purely for ones own ego then you really have no darn business putting your hat in the political ring. Now more than ever!
Sometimes if you are not fixing a problem, you are part of it.

Prison Budget Blowout New Zealand

Posted October 19th 2016 to the Dominion Post Newspaper Wellington NZ

Dom Post:

NZ is a country that in not in a war zone or has great cultural conflict so why on Earth do we have so many people in prison?
Prisons are suppose to be where we put the extremely small fraction of the population who are dangerous to others.
They are not mental hospitals nor are they time-out centers for people who are simply annoying.

The Tax Payer would be less burdened if we had some better way of finding work to keep annoying or unemployable people busy.
But Private enterprise is not going to step up because it is simply someone else's problem.

Our Government has the tools to fix this and they darn well should because the very high rates of incarceration in New Zealand spell out FAILURE in large
unmistakable letters over our whole political system.

It is hard to Fathom... But Texas is more progressive in this area than NZ is.

New Zealand - Political Test Lab

Posted on 31st August 2016 to the Dominion Post Newspaper Wellington NZ

Looking away from the Politics of the US Presidential Election Cycle overwhelming our media for a moment...

What is wrong with our Political System that is causing so much grief in NZ ? It is simply time for a systems upgrade ?

Political Leaders are just managers wound up in  Party “Brands”. What if we made up a new Progressive One-Stop-Shop Party ?
One that has permanent foundation concepts  Justice for all, HEALTH for all, WORK for all, Basic HUMAN NEEDS for all, taking on other
Political priorities as “Foundation Ideals” such as Greens Environmental concerns, Labour’s right to question, The Maori Parties care for our past & uniqueness,
National’s care for the Competitive Spirit and good Luck.  And of let’s not forget Winston Peter’s tireless scrutiny of wrong-doers.

New Zealand is an Ideal country for a true progressive 21st century Government, If Humanity can’t do it here easily , It can’t be done at all.
All we need now is a Bernie Sanders of our own ‘cause I am certain we are so much better than the sum of our political parts today.

And that goes for local government as well, it is almost medieval in nature if you look at it with undue attention..

New Zealand Tourism Strategy... or not

Posted 14th February 2016 to the Dominion Post Newspaper Wellington NZ

Reading the Fairfax news that the Department of Conservation is Straining to keep up with the Tourism Boom with its slimmed down Budget from our Government
I think the Minister in Charge should put up or get out of the way and let the Department built it’s own Tourism Industry...
It’s Staff get almost no incentives from the great boom in tourism, they do no get to be part of it nor does the Department as a whole.
Lots of DOC staff are University Educated now and can come up with great innovations if allowed.. They are wasted on Cleaning Toilets for low budget Campervan patrons.
Imagine if Fontera was run like that?  and yet Tourism has surpassed them. Good tourism needs real smart and creative people.. And smart people can not live on thin air and promises!

NZ Flag - Union Jack Heritage

Posted 22nd August 2015 to the Dominion Post Newspaper Wellington  NZ

Looking at all the children’s flag designs for our prime Minister this Month it was Obvious no artist wanted to use the Union Jack.
After all what did the British ever do for us.. Oh sure...  Roading, Buildings, Infrastructure.. Commerce, Medicine, Justice, Education
OK, Maybe Justice and Public Health... But what difference did they bring to the Maori? What do you mean Peace... As in not war??
OK they built the whole country and financed it and stopped the Tribal Genocides but apart from that...? Rugby & Beer !?!

Chinese House Buyer Debate NZ of 2015

Posted 15th July 2015 to the Dominion Post Newspaper Wellington NZ

On the Labour Party revisiting China-phobia in Auckland.

I Recall before Roger Douglas New Zealand was pretty proud of it’s self and what it stood for. They use to be VERY certain that this Country  should not be Swamped by any large numbers of any nationality outside our Anglo Imperial Cousins who built this Nation in the First Place..  If  People wanted to live here or buy any property they HAD to fit in the Kiwi Culture or at least pay homage to it.

Since Masters Prebble and Douglas unleashed to Dogs of Capitalism and the disembodied Hand of the Free Market on this country, it appears that the spirit of Godzone NZ has vanished and replaced by a Vortex.

It’s Hard to nail down what The Average Kiwi thinks about Homesoil and Patriotism today.  It’s just a free-for-all anything goes country now Held together by Sports, Scenery and tattered Flagging scraps of History.

Everything is for sale now and nobody can dare stop it!  Roger Douglas should have pointed out this before he was voted into power in the 1980s  Everyone HAS got to adapt or Perish.

If Mr. Andrew Little can turn that around he will simply need to be a Miracle Worker or a Super-Pope!

The State of New Zealand Tourism - 2015

Posted to the Dominion Post Newspaper 24th May 2015

Targeting Tourism Needs is a funny thing when it comes to Government.
Since the Early Days the Government has been the Bedrock of the Tourism Industry that Private enterprise is able to thrive on.

Museums and National Heritage  have always rated High on the Tourist Itinerary yet I don’t see them getting a boost from the Government
The Manapouri Power Project and Fiordland National Park have nothing in place to preserve and showcase the History behind the attractions that
Bring in so many tourists. Not that Meridian or The National Park Park don’t generate Millions of dollars for the Public Purse.

I like Cycle & Walking Trails but they are only part of a bigger spectrum on the New Zealand experience.

Part of the New Zealand Life style is collecting  of Artifacts and Old Technology to remember the past, that should be celebrated along with our historical achievement's
As well as Buildings and precincts of our Cities.

I think Weta Workshop and Mirimar have shown the way and its way more rewarding ride than Miles of politically expedient Cycleways in Places of no aesthetic Interest.

It is also a shame the Kingston Flyer is failing through the cracks when the TSS Earnslaw sails on when they worked so good togeather in History Passed.

Teflon John - New Zealand's famous PM

Posted 5th May 2015 to the Dominion Post Newspaper Wellington NZ

One has to admire our Prime Minister..
Teflon John is a genius, he has cracked the Kiwi Psyche and can do no wrong.

The Secret is the Tall Poppy Syndrome... Avoid any hint of Pomposity and Stuffy Moral Authority
Just do your job and don’t look flustered under fire.

Act Humble, Leadership is seen best as a childhood ambition not a serious calling, the old saying holds true in the Hearts of Nz’ers
That Nobody Likes a Smart-Arse. Don’t be stupid but avoid looking like anything more than a middling Intellectual.

If you Can, look a bit dreamy as nobody feels threatened by that. (note to David Cunliffe)

Remember that a Prime Minister is a fancy Civil Servant and not a Dictator or people will expect too much from you..

And don’t Forget that Half the Country don’t really want to vote for anyone so they are not in the game, they just bleat from the Sidelines.

Responsibilities of the New Zealand State

Posted 9th April 2015 to the Dominion Post Newspaper Wellington NZ

Listening to how our Government has handled the Home Care Contract situation one feels like reminding the Government that
Their primary purpose is to look after all it’s citizens, that is the social contract MPs are signing up to when they become representatives.

As we speak, New Zealanders who have been good honest hard working people are being displaced from housing because they are physically unable to
work hard enough to compete with overseas investors and the children of the wealthy. Now If they have to care for a Mentally or Physically damaged Family member or loved one this could make life totally intolerable!

Might I suggest that if we can not fix our economic system we can at least build care facilities for our Fine Citizens who have never done crime or held any malice
so they do not become displaced because of bad luck and avoid letting them becoming prey to the people we lock up in jails at great expense.

The best way of doing this?? I suggest traditional Villages with subsidized small Cottages with Communal Gardens and Workshops where Skills and Care can be shared. (with the Elderly as well.)

I gather the old State Mental Hospitals where going in that direction before they where scrapped by the free-marketeers.
But in 2015 any intellectual will tell you the free market is ultimately degrading humanity. Totally.

Dominion Post - LED Lighting Breakthrough

Posted 7th of April 2015 to the Dominion Post Newspaper Wellington NZ

This Morning on Radio NZ Kathryn Ryan stumbled across the environmental Black Hole that is Capitalism..
The Wellington City Councils Power Saving LED street lighting has thrown light on the fact that our Modern Capitalist System is fueled by stupid WASTE... And it is literally choking the Planet!

It’s quite clear now we can either waste resources like there is no tomorrow  or go on living
with a functional society that we can hand on to our children.

Our Government HAS to take responsibility to fight for it’s people and not just it’s Corporations.
Massive Energy Saving opportunities should only be positive turning point.

They are literally subsidizing the degradation of Nature if they take away the ratepayers energy saving windfall made by new technology.

There is an expectation that one day in the future there will be a Nuremberg type trial for those committed heinous Crimes against Nature.

So lawmakers beware.

NZ Appology - Christopher Tolkien

posted 3rd December 2014 to the Dominion Post Newspaper Wellington NZ

 Sir:
Speaking on behalf of the Lord of the Ring Tourist Industry...

Now that Sir Peter Jackson has the Hobbit “Done and Dusted” I think it’s time to mend some fences with Christopher Tolkien, JRR Tolkien’s Son
It seems in the 1980s the NZ Government Snubbed the Tolkien’s when they removed his Father’s Names from the Map of New Zealand without so much as consulting him.
It was especially if you read the demeaning reasons for the action in the first place, followed decades later by the Anduin Reach Saga and then Tolkien’s Mountain.
It’s clear Christopher has been shown pretty poor treatment by NZ Government representatives considering all the economic benefits His Fathers Works have brought us.
As the Steward of the Tolkien Estate he deserves better respect.

At this point in time a Prime Ministerial Apology would be a great gesture as Christopher is not that happy with New Zealand and that is truly a sad thing.
We don’t need to restore the Lost Tolkien Mountains of Fiordland but I’d love to see Mr Key and young  Royd Tolkien one day Climb JRR’s Mountain together, but that’s not going to happen without a bit of humility on our collective behalf.

Dom Post - New Banknotes 2014

Posted 21st Nov 2014 to the Dominion Post Newspaper Wellington NZ

Here is my 2 cents so to speak

The News is out that the our NZ Banknotes will get a make over.. But no new Faces!
What? do we only have 4 Kiwis worth celebrating...?

However There are a few more Kiwis that could have a go so to speak  I Nominate John Clarke in a Black Singlet for the $5 Maybe Beatice Hill- Tinsley for the $10 perhaps,  Kiri Te kanawa or Erueti Te Whiti on the $50 and Sir William Pickering for the $100.

I personally would also Like to see our Iconic Scenery on the Notes, the View of Mitre Peak, Queenstown from Bob’s Peak, Wellington from the Cable Car, Auckland’s Harbour Bridge
the Volcanic Plateau from the Desert Road, Lake Manapouri’s Panorama, Lake Tekapo & Mt Cook, Lake Waikaremoana, Otago Harbour... We can go on... The point is There are lots of cool options we can use if we fancy a change in our change..

And I would Love to see the $1 coin have the old 1c Silver Fern on it and the 2c Kowhai on the $2

Dom Post - Ebola's Airline Headache

Posted 26th October 2014 to the Dominion Post Wellington NZ

Reading between your lines, as Ebola cranks-up in Africa Many Cities in the West are having to think about Quarantine Facilities near their Airports..
I hear Fonterra is stressed about loosing Sales in East Africa but the World’s Airlines must be getting a bit worried now if Virus Paranoia gets out of hand,
They know they will be in for the Financial Chop and Tourism will by default go Belly Up and Paranoia spreads into the fickle Stock market, we all might end up on Prolonged Holiday with no where to go. Worse yet we will have to play sport at home.

Yes, Welcome to the Global Economy where everything effects every thing else Let’s Hope it’s not a House of Cards as Well.
Perhaps Old Norman Kirk’s Idea of a self-sufficient New Zealand wasn’t such a crazy joke after all.
