Invercargill Hauroko Water Pipeline Revisited

Posted 25th April 2017 to the Southland Express Newspaper Invercargill NZ

In the news it seems Haast is going to put in a water export pipeline.

But what happened to Tim Shadbolt’s Hauroko Pipeline to Bluff ?  Did Southland miss the boat pun on this.

At least Southland has a PORT to service boats .

Smart money in the USA is looking at fresh water as the next Crude oil, hard on the heals of a report that
lead is tainting most of America’s civic water supplies.

Forget boats, our forward planners are all to busy going round and round the mountain looking for pushbikes :-)

The Fate of Invercargill - Future Shocks

Posted 17th July 2016 to the Southland Express Newspaper Invercargill NZ.

Dear Southland Express,
It is topical now that Invercargill has got a real problem with it’s future
Ask the Boys at GNS and Climate Scientists and they agree that The City is simply built in the wrong place.

It is sad to say there is No financial model that says it is feasible to get it up to scratch for what lies in store.

Perhaps it might be prudent to start on a totally New CBD in another location  and leave the Historic Town Centre alone
Much like the did in Oamaru.

One Great Enclosed Shopping Mall  somewhere inland would fit the needs of the 21st century better than trying to shoe-horn it into the
Context of the 19th ?

Climate Change and Subduction Zones are real albeit future problems, but that being said it is not the 19th Century anymore, we don’t need to live by the waters edge
If we need to ship goods and people.

New Zealand Flag Artists - Media Candy

Posted 19th September 2015 to the Southland Express Newspaper Invercargill NZ

American commentary on our flag referendum indicates that Kiwis are given one Choice, the Kyle Lockwood Red White and Blue
Is Obviously the preferred flag of the referendum instigators as the others are smoke screen designs.

The Cost of finding out what Kiwis like would be a fraction of the cost of getting them to swallow what could be unpalatable change
Realistically a Newspaper Text Vote competition  would cost almost nothing..

Frankly I was Surprised the media couldn't advise our PM on what “people” like as they specialize in it.
So where is all the money going ?

Not to all the people who worked hard making interesting flag designs.

Frana Cardno - Memorial Walkway

Posted 4th May 2015 to the Southland Express Newspaper Invercargill

Thank you for doing a nice write up on the late Frana Cardno our Colourful ex Southland District Mayoress
I would love to see the District Council remember Frana and Her Husband Murray in a project they both supported: the Manapouri Te Anau Cycleway.
There was one area in question that would be deserving, the Manapouri End of the Cycle Trail had an Easement to the Summit of View Hill set aside
For the Cycletrail and the People of Te Anau and Manapouri.Frana said on Several occasions that the new Moturau Heights Subdivision Needed this yet
It somehow got inadvertently removed by an Council “bungle”. It was Put to the Council that the lake in the Subdivision Reserve Should be named Manuska Pond after Frana’s Childhood Nick Name
And that as the Reserve Parking Area could be easily linked by Walkway to View Hill through the National Park that could then be named the Cardino Walkway making View Hill 360 Panarama  Frana and Murray’s Memorial. Which Would in turn be linked through to the near by Manapouri Te Anau  Cycleway project...

Feel Free to ask the SDC to Comment :-)
