I see there is some confusion about the term CLIMATE CHANGE in your public opinion forum. I feel I should point out that it was not a scientist who came up with this term 
It was the media trying to simplify a complex subject who coined GLOBAL WARMING and CLIMATE CHANGE. Once they even called it Global Cooling to the dismay of experts on the subject.

However Political GLOBAL WARMING is way more concrete concept caused by overpopulation bad Governments and climate events.  It is an issue at play in the US Elections as we speak.
This in Turn WILL cause political climate change.  These are the issues that make the Pentagon & the CIA nervous.  

The War in Syria was a direct result of displacement of a large population of disaffected people due to crop failure. This is compounded by lack of Women's reproductive rights causing a surplus's of
unwanted yet innocent people  who flood to the liberal West in search of a future, is really turning up the political temperature dial.

REALISTICALLY World Politics are not our problem to fix and to be blunt, Southland’s perspective on this debate is of little importance one way or the other.

Dear Southland Express,
It is topical now that Invercargill has got a real problem with it’s future
Ask the Boys at GNS and Climate Scientists and they agree that The City is simply built in the wrong place.

It is sad to say there is No financial model that says it is feasible to get it up to scratch for what lies in store.

Perhaps it might be prudent to start on a totally New CBD in another location  and leave the Historic Town Centre alone
Much like the did in Oamaru.

One Great Enclosed Shopping Mall  somewhere inland would fit the needs of the 21st century better than trying to shoe-horn it into the
Context of the 19th ?

Climate Change and Subduction Zones are real albeit future problems, but that being said it is not the 19th Century anymore, we don’t need to live by the waters edge
If we need to ship goods and people.

 We read that the natural Self Seeding of Pine Trees in New Zealand is offending people again
It seems to be a NZ thing that some Trees have to conform to a set of rules or pay for their anarchist immoral ways.
It is somewhat odd to me that this has become a political “thing” when it is clear that all our Real Ecological Disasters
are cause by unfettered capitalism combined with an almost reckless lack of Statesmanship from our elected leaders,
Velvet-Leaf being the latest in a pile of stuff ups.

The Idea there is No Place in New Zealand for Exotic Flora seems to be somewhat quaint in the face of Global Climate Change
but our Government appears to think the Anthopocene (the era of Human Modification of the Planet) is not applicable to remote
Island Nations so I can not see our situation getting any better... Pine Seeds or no. 

The SS United States Recycled ? 2016 annoucement

I find it surprising that Crystal Cruises is considering modernizing the Nations mothballed Flagship Liner the SS United States to go cruising again
Instead of turning it into a floating luxury Hotel at Red Hook...
Someone pointed out that transporting one passenger on a Cruise Liner uses 3 times more fuel than a Jet Airliner and one wonders if this form of transport has had its day ?

Still it will look better than all those ugly looking Floating Hotels called Cruise ships we have today and that is worth something. I don’t suppose American Workers will employed to restore the Old Girl ?
They will Probably drag her off to China for that..

When the SS United States conservancy recently announced a possible new Lease of life there was some speculation that Donald Trump might have taken the sly opportunity to step in and make the United States Great Again!

As usual and Ironically it turned out to be our Asians friends.

It was and is a Perfect tool to Fix all our Problems if managed by the World’s only Super Power
Bernie Sanders is the heir to Henry Wallace and is the only person with a plan to save the planet without the abject genocide of Billions of luckless human beings
To preserve the life style of a lucky handful. If the Democratic Party can not see this they are willfully blind or unworthy of office
Some times people just have to do the dam Job they are paid for!

American Politicians are there to look after their People. Keep them Safe and secure yes, but also alive and well.
They should certainly not be dabbling in Natural Selection based on monetary luck !

Climate Change Oppinion - Trilobites !

John Baird of Winton has brought up a problem Scientists have with this planet, that is that it is a wonderfully complicated place
And one can not explain it’s complexity to the average person without having to make every argument a one issue problem.
Too much Co2 is not our single problem on planet Earth. Nor is the presence of Human beings, but it is a deadly certainty that
current Human Political thinking is going to choke the Planet to Death if it fails to address the Finite Nature of our resources on this pale blue dot we live on.
The Trilobites managed to Rule this Planet for 270 Million Years because they just got on with living without Wars, Agriculture, Energy Extraction, Religion or Politics..

We are way smarter than Trilobites are we not? We have 269.99 Million Years to go to beat them!

Mankind's New Epoc - The Anthropocene era

Our Planet is a good old home, It’s got 4.45 Billion Years on the Clock and is fit to go several Billion more.
It was the Planet of the Trilobites for 270 Million Years and the Planet of the Dinosaurs for 135 Million years after that
And now we have just started the Anthropocene Era (aka the Time of the Biped - Primates)

I often wonder what the place will look like with us as tenants after 100 Million Years
considering we have just about wrecked it after a few mere decades of Global Domination...

It’s a funny thing we don’t actually have a body of our greatest minds yet to steer us as a species but I guess the Trilobites didn’t either and they managed OK.

Unlike our Trilobite ancestors we are part Bonobo and part Chimpanzee in our genetics and we don’t know if we should be peaceful or violent, should we except change or stand our ground... We don’t even know, will we still even be one species or fork again, there could be a Anthropocene Explosion involving some form of intelligence!

Any rate I hope our first Crazy Centuries are “remembered” when we hand over the planet to it’s next Tenants and I hope they forgive our mistakes, with any luck there will be many millions of Anthropocene Years to fix them.
