Don't let politics ruin our words !

Posted 7th August 2017 to the Advocate South Newspaper Te Anau NZ

Dear Advocate: There are a few of your readers who write political viewpoints to the regional broadsheets and I think they do not fully understand some concepts.
For example the opposite of a socialist is in fact a narcissist and on the bell curve of human compassion empathy and sympathy are also on different ends of a scale.

For example Mr Donald Trump has empathy which by definition means he has love for his “kind” he is also not a socialist as he is focused on his supporters, friends and family first
So that pushes him into the narcissist camp but, if you remind him of his friends & Family he will maybe show you compassion.

Franklin D Roosevelt on the other hand
was the opposite of this and he used his socialism and sympathy for everyone to not only save the entire United States but the World from falling into Darkness and despair. He really did
make America great again when it was on it’s knees.

As for good and bad words...  Socialism has got a bad wrap even though it saved us in a time of great need, mixed with a pinch of capitalism.
It’s powerful nature scared people.  Capitalism (a nice word) mixed with narcissism is another story as it is toxic to nature itself and was exactly what FDR had to save us from.

It may be shades of grey but If we don’t use words & concepts correctly we can not be understood or worse.

Faith in Invercargill's future

Posted 4th August 2017 to the Southland Times Newspaper Invercargill NZ.

Dear Southland Times:
It Is great to see Jocelyn & Scott O’Donnell showing faith in the beleaguered City of Invercargill. I see a lot of money made in the South is not staying here and sadly
we are still loosing all our best & brightest to points north. The Richardson Group had done well in the Transport industry an is ploughing money back into the old CBD where others have given up.
It is refreshing to see some positive hope about the town after years of grim despair and diminishing jobs.. Without doubt the O’Donnells are the best thing for In’gill since SIT used it’s social conscience to boost the towns rental market with Zero fees. Thanks you two for employing creative and skilled Southlanders we love them and want them to stay. Pay no attention to the grumpy Mervin Caves in this forum :-)

Our Grumpy Old RIGHT Men

Posted 30th July 2017 to the Southland Times Newspaper Invercargill NZ

Dear Southland Times,
I read again local opinion that seems all the rage with well off old white guys that all that society's problems are mainly caused by poor people
Making bad life choices, there is some Ironic truth to this but maybe not in the way they might think.

If one can choose when to be come “alive” make sure you make the right choices: Be born with good parents with good friends and great teachers.
Don’t be born at a time when the World has more people than jobs or in a backward country, choose not to be born in a country run by zealots or tyrants.

Once born and alive, choose to be as graceful and magnanimous as you can afford and if you have a vote choose to vote for graceful and magnanimous people because it is our leaders who
make our REAL life choices for us NOT poor people.

BTW at the moment honest hard working, caring people in this very country can not keep ahead of the rising costs sporadic hours and ageing bodies, what choices do they have ?
